Birthday Week

It’s impossible to fit all of the celebrating into one day. I mean, c’mon, we’ve survived another whole year! And the way things have been going through the past couple, coming out on the other side is truly a cause to celebrate.

I’m sure you are familiar. Whatever they may be, I know you, too, have “things”.

A lot of the celebrating is birthday-based justification…
“Might as well have a second piece of cake, it IS my birthday (week).”
“I can sleep in! It’s my birthday (week)!”
“Sure, I’ll have another drink, it’s my birthday (week)!”
Of course we’re going to milk it, it’s our birthday! We get to be selfish because it’s OUR day (week). Once it’s over, well, we’re just older.

I celebrated my birthday week with not one, no, but TWO! two visits to the dentist. WTH.

Not much of a celebration, and to be honest, I couldn’t really eat that cake, sleep in late OR have another alcoholic or carbonated drink. WTH.

But there’re 364 days (51 weeks) in a year to complain. This is a celebratory post!

I kicked off my birthday on Sunday, October 3 with a Bears win (counts). Monday I met a Chick friend for coffee, Tuesday I BBsat! We visited Anderson Gardens to feed the ducks.

He was absolutely not interested in the ducks or giant coy. At all. But the dirt– now that was fascinating, lol.

Wednesday, well, Wednesdays are always a cause for celebration, but this week, in honor of my birthday, we went to see The Martian, (good movie, great book). Thursday was my actual birthday with a mail box stuffed with cards and a Facebook stream filled with love and accolades, dinner with my son, and some wonderful gifts, like this one.

Friday I spent with good friends. And Saturday I played games with the In Print crowd. (I even brought treats to share with the class, lol!)

In honor of my birthday week, there were some Hawks wins, a Cubs loss, and a fabulous week of autumn weather! (Mother Nature is not always so kind. In the past, it has snowed on October 8.) I received many gifts– so many in fact that some have yet to be opened! Maybe turning 49 deserves TWO WEEKS?

About Mary Fran Says

I am an artist, crafter, designer and writer. I enjoy working with mixed media-- applying visual and tactile manipulations to telling a story. Not a lot of market for that, though, :), so I'm focusing on short story submissions and novel completions. Yes, plural. Lots of beginnings, too many ideas, not enough focus.
