A Special Gift

In the past, I have published short essays by myself and others exploring the longevity of the emotional connection to certain gifts. I have a story I would like to share. It’s in regards to a new-to-me gift, but I find it so thoughtful and personal, I believe it bears acknowledgment.

I get fun Corgi gifts a lot! And although I love them all, this one in particular lands space in my heart. I was given a vintage nutcracker FROM WALES! with a Welsh Corgi on it by a close friend and relative. Since I’m the Crazy Corgi Lady, how fitting is that? Absolutely unexpected and perfect for me, a gift I will cherish, and show off, forever. It’s so nice to be surprised with the physical representation of someone thinking about you.

And, conversely, I will think of this generous person every time I see this cute little Corgi pup.

Do you have a similar story? Something cherished that embodies a person, action, or thought? Please share. I would love to do another Gifts, Giving, and Gratitude post.

For more information, check out the original post from 2019, which was inspired by an article in the Trib about lasting gifts. I had requested similar stories and was blown away by the amount I received. I was able to share not one, not two, but THREE posts with all the wonderful stories. I repeated the assignment in 2020, and again in 2022 with two posts.

Read the stories if you’re considering sharing your own, read them if you just need a holiday pick-me-up. Be warned, they may elicit all the feels. But that’s good, right?
