I consider myself well-read, educated, experienced, and, to a large degree, old. Yet, I’m always learning. I love it when I come across something that is new to me. Maybe you know these things, maybe I’ll expand your knowledge base, either way, here you go…
Rigor mortis is not a permanent posthumous state. I recently found out from the Crime Scene Investigation class at the Writers’ Police Academy that rigor mortis, or postmortem rigidity, does not last! I guess I always just assumed that a dead body, once stiff, stayed that way. They do not. Rigor passes approximately 24 hours after death.
Narcan can be used on dogs. I also learned at the conference that drug-sniffing dogs are often treated with Narcan, a medication that rapidly reverses an opioid overdose. It makes sense, I mean, drug-sniffing dogs are sniffing drugs! Of course they might be affected. One of the sessions at the WPA focused on training officers to treat injured or otherwise endangered K-9s on site instead of having to wait for emergency assistance or transport.
I could totally make fentanyl tablets. I won’t! But at the Death by Powders and Pills class at, you guessed it, the WPA, we were told how easy it is to get supplies–pill presses from Wal Mart, binding powders off Amazon, and the illegal opioid through the dark web. Scary stuff.
Once again, I will wrap up New to Me with What I Know:
My puppy is the cutest! Roxy is already four months old. She is smart, adorable, and wildly entertaining.
But you knew that.
