Today is Labor Day. Most folks have the day off from work and/or school. Picnics will be had, road trips may be planned. There are festivals, fairs, and tournaments to attend. Many will be celebrating the unofficial end of summer. Locally, that will be pretty easy since the forecast calls for temps in the mid-70’s, which totally justifies closing that pool.
In case you don’t know, Labor Day was federally recognized in June of 1894 and, in 1968, moved permanently to a Monday, so workers could enjoy a 3-day weekend. It’s a holiday meant to celebrate the hard-working and under appreciated. It was fought for and earned by American laborers. As we grill our burgers and toss our beanbags in the back yards, I propose a toast to the people that continue to keep this country going–
The difference between try and triumph is a little umph. ~Author unknown
To you.
America is what it is because of your umph.
And a bonus toast to those of you WORKING today.
Thank you.
Have a great day, Mary. WE are camping until tomorrow!
