One of the best things about organizing Word of Art 2 is the built-in breakdown of deadlines.
First, we collected Word submissions. Next, we posted them for reading. Now the artists get to select their choice of story or poem to create Art on a 16×20 canvas.
It’s a lot of hurry up and wait… and I kind of enjoy the waiting parts (less work!). But the hurry up parts are fun, too. I look forward to seeing which pieces are selected. I’m eager to see which talented artists participate. And the reception… oh, what a blast!
Forty-five authors and poets provided over one hundred Word submissions this year. Surely there’s something to speak to the artist in you. Feel free to spread the Word of Art 2 your friends, family, co-workers and any talented soul you admire. (see what I did there? 2=to, lol)

Beginning this week, the Word requests will be assigned to Artists in the order received. There are only 30 spots in the books, so space is limited!
The first thirty selected Words and their accompanying Art will be published in the Word of Art 2 book. Authors and Artists will be invited to read and speak at the WORD of ART 2 Gallery Exhibition and Book Release Reception, in Cooperation with the Center for the Arts and Spirituality and Art@Emmanuel, on Friday, Sept. 4, 2015 from 5-8 pm with the program running 6-7:30. Emmanuel Lutheran Church will again host, 920 Third Avenue Rockford, Illinois 61104. Books will be for sale. This event is free and open to the public.
You don’t need to be a member of In Print Professional Writers’ Organization to participate, but with all IP has to offer:
*Joint membership with the Chicago Writers’ Association
*In Print Radio
*Word of Art!
and much more…
why wouldn’t you join?
It’s your turn to “hurry up and wait.” Read the Words, pick one (or two, read guidelines for clarification), then wait to hear back from me. There’re several steps in securing your story for you. I will confirm your choice by the end of the week, please give me a couple of days before you email again to see if I got your first email.
Word of Art 2 is on pace to be even more successful than the inaugural year.
Thank you for being a part of it!
