I love a fresh start.
A blank page, a white canvas, a new year.
They hold so much promise.
I’m not so concerned with traditional “resolutions” this new year, although I do resolve to get things done. There’re a lot of things I think about doing that I just never seem to get to. For example, I subscribe to a blog called the Introvert’s Dictionary and every time I get an update, I think, I want to do this! I want to create a Writer’s Dictionary. So, I’m going to.
I’m also going to publish. Again. Because it is awesome.
I want to take the steps necessary to personalize our new house. Paint some rooms, hang some pictures, make it ours.
I intend to celebrate the people in my life.
I plan on being smarter about how I spend money, spend time, and suspend opinions.
I love that I have an entire year to work through these promises.
What do you hope to accomplish in 2017? What’s on your to-do list?
We can do these things, you know. We can.
I love the optimism a new year offers.
Mary, I love your enthusiasm for the blank canvas that is set before you. In the past when I have found myself contemplating what to do with a stark white canvas I would be filled with excitement and angst all at the same time. The possibilities were endless and also intimidating and suffocating. What if I failed at my attempt to create a worthy piece of art and wasted my time, money and effort. This fear has stopped me dead in my tracks numerous times. This year I vow to trust and believe in me. To know that what I envision is worthy of my efforts even if it takes several attempts to meet my full expectations. I will only entertain positive comments and those helping me to improve on my goals. I will surround myself with creative souls and lift them up in their journeys. I will embrace every moment of each day that I am blessed with and celebrate all of my blessings. I believe that this will be a break through year filled with ambitious goals countered with quiet reflective moments to keep me balanced. Here’s to 2017 and all that it has to offer and to all that we have have to offer to 2017!
Thank you, Kelly! I believe in you! I love what you said, “and to all that we have to offer to 2017!” You are so right.
I’m also doing a different approach to the typical resolutions. Instead of a focus on what I’ll change or what I’ll do differently I’m looking at what goals I want to reach. The usual “exercise daily” resolution would be “a goal of x weight” with this plan. So, a few of my 2017 goals: get a real pocketbook and ditch the diaper bag, a publish-ready edit of book 1, all books of this series done and lined up for the final edit as NaNo2017 approaches, a blank page for NaNo 2017 so that I can start a new story.
Those are great goals, Karen, and I’m here to help you any way I can! Let’s Karenkerr the heck out of this year!
I love the inspiration of a fresh new year, too. So here are my plans: get in the best possible physical shape (for my body and my mind), finish the new book and pitch it to agents at The Writer’s Institute, join the Wisconsin Screenwriters Forum and write a screenplay, and work on Leo’s third book. Oh — read like crazy!!! Thanks for this opportunity to share, Mary!
I can’t wait to hear all about your adventures! I want to write a screenplay, too!
