Negative Election

Two weeks from tomorrow is election day.
The day we cast our vote to elect the next American president.
My president. Your president.
OUR PRESIDENT.

I’m POSITIVE it will be a NEGATIVE election.
Why would the election be any different than the campaigning?

It seems no one likes either candidate.
(Can you say “understatement”?)
Instead of sharing who will receive their vote, a lot of folks will tell you–at length and perhaps loudly–who they’re NOT voting for.

I’d like to see that option on the ballot.
Please Select One:
__ Clinton
__ Trump
__ NOT Clinton
__ NOT Trump

(I’d REALLY like to see ANY OPTION other than these two candidates, but for the purpose of this blog, let’s stay focused.)

In the vein of those television shows we seem to enjoy so much, who would be voted off the island? Who is the Weakest Link? Who’s banner must fall? Who will turn in their jacket? Who’s…fired?

I’d be very curious to see which category received the most votes if you could only choose ONE. I genuinely believe a NOT line would get more check marks, x’s, black circles, and energetic punches. If that happened, if a NOT got MORE votes, would we then NOT have a president? Would there truly be a winner?
Certainly NOT America.

If you choose to vote FOR someone, try to do it FOR the right reasons.
Not spiting half the nation is a good start.
One of those two is going to be our next president.
My president. Your president.
OUR PRESIDENT.

POSITIVELY frightening as that may be…

About Mary Fran Says

I am an artist, crafter, designer and writer. I enjoy working with mixed media-- applying visual and tactile manipulations to telling a story. Not a lot of market for that, though, :), so I'm focusing on short story submissions and novel completions. Yes, plural. Lots of beginnings, too many ideas, not enough focus.
