2 Wait or Not 2 Wait

Remember having to wait beside a very attached telephone in anticipation of BIG NEWS?

No, you probably don’t.

Good things used to come to those who waited.
Ain’t nobody got time for that now.

Notime

Immediate gratification. Is that too much to ask for?
Obviously not.
Cell phone.
Text message.
Email.
Facebook.
Twitter.
Blog post.
There are many more. Because we need many more!
What if all of the first hundred ways to immediately inform us fails?!

I need to know…
When the baby is born! That the agent called! If you’re on your way home!
Did my team win? Is the cake ready? What time is the movie?
Is it raining? Snowing? Sleeting? Is the sun setting? How’s traffic?
Where you ate lunch! What you had! What it looked like!
I need to know it now.
And I’d better “like” it.

It’s ALL big news. All of it.
And those seconds between replies, texts, posts, and updates?
Torture.

You’d think a LOT more would get accomplished considering there are no more wasted hours waiting by the phone.

But you wouldn’t think it for very long.

I’m going to need to get that.
You understand.

About Mary Fran Says

I am an artist, crafter, designer and writer. I enjoy working with mixed media-- applying visual and tactile manipulations to telling a story. Not a lot of market for that, though, :), so I'm focusing on short story submissions and novel completions. Yes, plural. Lots of beginnings, too many ideas, not enough focus.
