An Extra Hand

or ten or twenty…

I_L_H

I do!
I find hands fascinating… their shape, their dexterity, their abilities…

I think it’s interesting what you can tell about a person from their hands.
Hands hold so much meaning– they’re capable of great communications.

I have quite the collection.

blog_box

I don’t have a “hand” display, but you can find them throughout my home.

blog_box3

Some are functional, some are just for looks, but ALL are cool!

blog_box4

I find them everywhere from Hobby Lobby to flea markets to trash bins in the Garment District in NYC. Some are vintage, others are cheap and easy, but isn’t that a perfect representation of hands in general?

blog_box5

Some have been  gifts from people who LOVE me.

blog_box6

Some have been handcrafted by myself and other artists.

blog_box7

This is just a hand-full of my collection.
I have more… but never enough!

H is for Hands.

Wit without discretion is a sword in the hand of a fool” Spanish Proverb

I held a moment in my hand, brilliant as a star, fragile as a flower, a tiny sliver of one hour. I dripped it carelessly, Ah! I didn’t know, I held opportunity.” Hazel Lee

Remember, we all stumble, every one of us. That’s why it’s a comfort to go hand-in-hand.” Emily Kimbrough

If I could reach up and hold a star for every time you’ve made me smile, the entire evening sky would be in the palm of my hand.

You play the hand you’re dealt. I think the game’s worthwhile.” C.S. Lewis

Where the spirit does not work with the hand there is no art” Leonardo DaVinci

On the other hand, you have different fingers.” Steven Wright

(This photo intense blog was much more challenging and time-consuming than I’d imagined it would be. Thank goodness I didn’t have a breakfast date! But I’m that much smarter now, right?)

About Mary Fran Says

I am an artist, crafter, designer and writer. I enjoy working with mixed media-- applying visual and tactile manipulations to telling a story. Not a lot of market for that, though, :), so I'm focusing on short story submissions and novel completions. Yes, plural. Lots of beginnings, too many ideas, not enough focus.
